Mail is generally a great thing, and I enjoy receiving mail. There’s something really old-timey about getting a letter sent via snail mail. It always makes me smile when I open the box to find a postcard from far away, or a note from a long-lost relative.
This all pales in comparison, however, to opening my mailbox this morning and finding a little cardboard box with my name on the outside. I was surprised, but not at all prepared to open the even smaller box inside and find the most beautiful sapphire earrings, sent directly to me from africa. I can’t think of anything more perfect than that moment of pure surprise and joy.
Life is many things, but never predictable. And maybe it’s those unexpected moments that allow us to feel the most deeply.
